Fairtrade at MCMA

We have once again been raising awareness about Fairtrade across the academy and in the wider community. Last year the academy achieved the highest Fairtrade Schools Award as a result of their proactive response to raising awareness of this important global trade issue. And this had already resulted in the academy being asked to share their innovative work with other Cooperative Academies Trust Schools at the inaugural Co-op Fairtrade Schools’ Conference at the Co-op headquarters.

The academy celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight 2017 through a range of different ways: from choreographing different responses to Fairtrade through The Arts, to promoting the use of Fairtrade footballs through a fairplay Fairtrade football tournament. Brad Hill, Fairtrade Strategy Manager, for the Co-op group, alongside the Trust’s Central Team, visited the academy during Fairtrade fortnight, to find out about MCMA’s work and to share with the students the commitment that the Co-op group have to Fairtrade.

Agnes in Year 10 said, ‘It is fantastic to have met Mr Hill and to hear first-hand about his job and the difference that Fairtrade makes across the world.’

The academy has also begun an outreach offer to local Primary Schools to further raise awareness of Fairtrade and any primaries who are interested in finding out more about this are encouraged to get in touch with Mrs Fiddler at MCMA.
