We expect all our students to attend the Academy every day in order that they can achieve their very best and get the most out of all the Academy has to offer. We are committed to working with parents/carers and students to ensure that our students’ attendance is at least 97%.
Notifying the Academy of Absence
If your child is unable to attend the Academy for any reason, then please ensure that you have telephoned us by 8:30am. You must leave your name, your child’s name, their form and the reason for absence. All dental or non-urgent medical appointments must be made outside of Academy hours, however, in unavoidable circumstances, such as for certain hospital appointments, authorisation can only be made with an accompanying medical letter or appointment card.
Please note that there are very few occasions when absence can be authorised. Unauthorised absence is when a child is absent from the Academy without the permission of the headteacher. Please note that absence also includes lateness. In line with national guidelines and our attendance policy, holiday requests during term-time cannot be authorised. The academy will continue to follow the necessary legal framework, if required, and any absences or persistent lateness which are not agreed by the academy will incur a penalty notice.
The Academy issues a number of attendance related rewards. Each week, students who have 100% attendance are issued with certificates and these students are also given Reward points which they can spend in the Academy shop. The form with the highest attendance in each year group are provided with a prize to share and each half term, attendance prize draws take place. 100% attendance certificates and badges are also highly coveted by students and are worn with pride. The Academy provides free toast and a drink which is served in the dining room each morning from 8:00am. Attendance at the free breakfast entitles students to be entered into a half-termly prize draw to win a selection of prizes that are kindly sponsored by local businesses and suppliers. If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, or wish to speak to anyone regarding this, then please contact your child’s form tutor, Associate Head of Year, Head of Year or Attendance Officer.
